All Highest Form styles are created by Robert D'Amour (Founder/Designer). In addition to designing and pattern-making, he is directly involved from the earliest fabric formulation/creation phase to final production.
The collection uses his specially-designed fabrics to create casual wear that is form-fitting without being tight. His signature Highest Form casual pant fits like a relaxed jean; the Highest Form jacket feels like you picked up your comfortable, worn-in motorcycle jacket. Collection pieces are purposefully designed by D'Amour to compliment other Highest Form products... or to stand on their own. Our signature tape and stitching provide unique yet subtle) brand-identifying details. D'Amour's top of the line custom fabric mix is composed of Italian cashmere) twill French terry and Supima cotton jersey. He mixes this blend with a small amount of lycra, giving the material its durable memory, resolving common manufacturing issues with dyeing and shrinkage) and essentially eliminating the 'stretch & sag' problem customers often experience with other jersey fabrics.
Growing up just outside of Montreal, Canada, Robert D' Amour's interest and creativity in design was apparent by age 16 as he had moved to LA with his partner, Antony Moorecroft, to help develop Antony Moorecroft Designs. His passion for fashion and design exposed him to all levels of the apparel world, from denim dyeing to floor merchandising, pattern making, production line oversight, marketing and full design responsibilities. By age 20 he learned to block and cut fur, creating his first designs at his job with a local furrier. His designs were shown in their front window.
His curiosity and interests fueled an international travel/lifestyle with work in South Africa, Hong Kong, Bali, Shanghai and many others. It's telling that much of the original color palette for Highest Form was derived from a collection of paint samples in unique see-through glass bottles he spotted in a small Parisian art store. He bought all the samples on the spot.
As highestform®' s Founder/Designer, D'Amour realized there was an undeserved niche after a (fruitless) search in 2010 for a pant that was comfortable ) uncontrived, functional and flattering. Today, D'Amour is leveraging the experience he has garnered over a 30 year career to build a multi-channel multi-category lifestyle retail company.
He has always had an astute eye for lifestyle and fashion classics which are able to retain their essence while being faithfully but functionally adapted for modern times. This has become his signature mark in all his design collections, reflected in his own attire, home designs and furnishings.
Robert D'Amour has spent much of his 30-year career designing contemporary sportswear and building multinational brands. This includes being Head Designer for Hype , a popular clothing line from the 1980's which he redesigned and added a well-selling private label. Hype private label product accounted for -80% of the Anthropologie's first two catalogs for the women's clothing, accessories, and home decor store. As Design Director for French Connection ( southern hemisphere), he created sportswear collections for the South African and Australian markets with oversight of sample acquisitions to showroom merchandising.
As Vice President of Product Development at Babystyle, the recent Los Angeles-based leading retailer of maternity and baby products,
D'Amour established the theme, designs as well as production for all products under the Babystyle labels. With celebrity, Cindy Crawford, D'Amour led the design team creating and coordinating the lifestyle accessory collections (toys, furniture, nursery bedding, and accessories) and was lead designer/coordinator in the strong website business, award-winning catalogs as well as being closely involved with CEO Laurie McCartney in expanding the on-line business to bricks & mortar' stores at 30 prime locations across the country.
